NOCTULA – Environmental Consultants was responsible for the minimization measures of the environmental impact of the sediment removal that took place at the dam of the Ucanha-Gouviães hydroelectric power plant. Environmental factors considered in this study were the fish communities.

The parameters to be monitored within the sediments emptying and cleaning the reservoir are divided into three phases: before, during and after the process occurs.

All the sampling was carried out under the protocol defined by INAG (2008) – “Biological Evaluation of Water Quality in River Systems according to the Water Framework Directive: Sampling protocol and analysis of fish.” This procedure will ensure a better comparison with future inventories resulting from monitoring processes.

The samples were collected by foot covering the entire riverbed from downstream to upstream, with electrofishing equipment properly adjusted depending on the electrical conductivity of the water, previously determined, thus helping to improve the fishing efficiency while avoiding injuries and fish mortality. It is noteworthy that it was not induced any mortality of collected specimens.

The NOCTULA – Consultants Environment was also responsible for the Study of the recovery of river connectivity and ecological quality of the main watershed of the Santa Natália river within the exploration phase of the hydroelectric Pego Negro Hidroelectric plant.
